The Midland Small-bore Rifle League is an organisation that runs a set of postal leagues in the winter for small-bore rifle shooters.

You can register interest here.

Initially it was set up to promote shooting in the Midland Region, hence the name.  This region consisted of the Counties of:

Bedfordshire, Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Huntingdonshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Rutland, Shropshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire

Now the league is open to all.

The leagues consist of (typically) 6 teams, each containing 4 competitors. Each team then shoots against the other 5 teams twice during the season, giving a total of 10 matches each.

Occasionally, in order to ensure even competition a league may consist of 4 teams, each shooting 3 times against the other teams, to give a total of 9 matches.

At the end of the season the winning team in each division shoots in the Pethard competition, a handicap competition to give an overall winning team.  At the same time the shooter with the top average score in each division shoots in the Jefferson competition, a separate handicap competition to give an overall individual champion.

Also there is another (concurrent) competition for juniors who have completed all rounds in the main competition. They go on to shoot a handicap competition for a voucher for shooting equipment (worth £50, £25 and £12-50 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, from 2011).

Unless otherwise stated the League is run under NSRA rules.
